Lancaster turns to the monkey-dog beside him and punches it. The animal is clearly taken by surprise, and it pulls back, recovering. The rest of them pull back momentarily as well. Lancaster lunges at a second one. It pulls back. But Lancaster notices this time that as he lurched one way, the animals crowded in on him from the other side. This seesaws back and forth with the animals getting closer.
He pulls out an electric charge device that sends out a non-lethal lightning bolt. He fires it at one animal and it backs the creature up, then he turns and fires at another. The individuals are pushed back, but they continue to crowd in from the opposite side. He pushes up the energy level. It could actually be lethal. Lancaster races forward in one direction, scaring a couple of the monkey-dogs who race off across the moss and up the trees, then spins to meet the others.
But the ones behind him have gotten in too close. They overwhelm him, covering his entire body, scratching, biting, and yanking at his flesh. He shocks a couple off, but five more jump on him. The growling is as fierce as dogs, their teeth as razor sharp, or worse, and their claws are like small knives. He swings his fist, throwing one or two off, and five more join them. He is so buried now he doesn't know if they're being joined by others. He tries to walk away with them on him, but the sheer weight drags him down into the water. There they hold him, biting and ripping at him. He tries to get up, but they hold him underwater.
Soon, he stops struggling, and they share in the meal they have all gotten together.
