Lancaster gets to the canyon. Looking around, he sees that the animals have continued to chase him even after the forest. And now he's trapped. Lancaster puts the hand com to his face and calls to Little Jack. "Now would be a good time for one of your famous pick-ups."
"On my way up," Little Jack says.
Not paying much attention to what Jack is saying, (he registered that he's coming, and that's all that's important,) Lancaster puts the com away and readies himself for a rescue.
As if knowing he will be going soon, one of the creatures steps forward, raising up on its hind legs, and narrows its gaze on Lancaster. He scrapes his hands together, one after the other. One of his friends gets confident, and pulls up next to him, then another, and another.
Soon the whole hoard is ready to take him out together. His back is to the wall. There's nowhere he can run.
Several of them jump at him. He falls back, startled, and loses his footing. As he and one of the monkey-dogs flail to their doom, Little Jack's ship rises up from below, and Lancaster lands on its hood. Little Jack told him he was coming "up."
He holds the ship steady as he gets them over the lip of the cliff and lands. There is plenty more to learn about, but Lancaster is too beaten up to finish today. Perhaps, after a change of clothes, particularly his pants, he can explore the mystic island some more.
