Lancaster turns toward the large creature and charges toward it. The large animal does not pound him for one reason only, it is so surprised at his audacity. Instead, the creature backs up a moment, staring at him. By the time it swats at him with one of its magnificent hands, he is dodging around it.
The monkey-dogs take chase, bounding off of mossy islands and slanted trees, howling high pitched threats.
The larger creature panics at the charging animals, and it turns and swats at them. Panicked at the attack, the monkey-dogs jump onto the creature, and a fierce battle between the animals ensues.
Lancaster gets some distance, then calls to Little Jack. "I need a pickup by the cliff," he says urgently.
"On my way," Little Jack says. And true to his word, he lands right next to the canyon. Here is Dr. Makoto's landing spot. He can have the rest of the headache, Lancaster has other planets to explore.
