Lancaster dashes in between the monkey-dogs, trying to rush into the woods. But his boots get stuck in the bog's mud, and he finds himself moving at a snail's pace.
One of the monkey-dogs leaps at him and lands on his upper torso. Lancaster bats at him with one hand while he tries to free himself with the other. He becomes alarmed when he feels the animal biting at his head, trying to pull it open. He focuses all of his attention, trying to pull the beast off, as another jumps on him, then another and another. They are all biting at him, and he tries desperately to shake them off.
Then he and all the monkey-dogs are lifted up in the jowls of the great beast. In one large crunch, it snaps down on this sandwich of bodies. It takes its time to enjoy this meal.
