Lancaster turns and sprints back in the direction he came. Unfortunately, that's the direction from where the cracking began, and the bridge drops out from under him. He is moving too quickly to be able to change direction, and he finds himself running in thin air, and plummeting downward almost in the very center of the canyon, disappearing into the mists of the abyss.
