In Relic Worlds Showdown, players choose a faction from the Relic Worlds universe. Each faction has a list of possible characters, units, and specialty items unique to itself. They also each have separate motivations from which they gain points, so each player will have a unique experience in the game based on what they play. For instance, treasure hunters are trying to find relics, pirates are trying to find valuable items, and corporate empires are trying to claim sections of the board.
Players choose which units they want out of their faction books. They then set up the table with terrain and hidden "discoveries." These discoveries are turned face down so no one knows what they are, but when their units approach them, they are revealed. Discoveries can be traps, monsters, relics, or mundane items. Players roll or draw cards to see specifically what types of traps, monsters, or treasures they are.
Once the table is ready, they place their units at the edges and begin the game. Using the Showdown rules by Pinnacle Entertainment, they move their units around the table flipping over discoveries and dealing with the results, gaining points based on their faction's motivation.
Relic Worlds Showdown is a miniatures game. Players can use cutouts in the books, or they can purchase counters from The Game Crafter. The terrain that the characters move around in can be miniature terrain, or printable terrain setups you can find on Wargame Vault and Drivethru RPG.
There will also be a role playing version of this game using the Savage Worlds system, which will utilize many of the same elements in Showdown, except players will be able to create their own characters to go on adventures.
