Lancaster bursts out of the rubble and runs down one of the more narrow alleys. He can hear the creature crashing against buildings behind him taking chase. Lancaster pulls the communicator from his pocket and calls Little Jack.
"You're quitting already?" Little Jack asks before Lancaster can speak.
"I picked up a little problem!" Lancaster shouts into the mic, figuring that Little Jack can hear the smashing behind him.
"Head to the cliff," Little Jack says. "I'll be there to pick you up."
Without responding, Lancaster puts away the com and dashes toward the cliff, the roaring of the creature close behind.
The buildings thin out, meaning fewer buildings to dodge through, but Lancaster has a lead on the beast, and he sprints through the fog toward the cliff. It comes upon him quickly and he has to brake quickly to avoid running over the edge.
Lancaster looks around desperately. No Little Jack. He should have had time to get there. Little Jack has never left him out to dry before.
The ground shakes. Lancaster spins round in the direction the beast will be coming. He can hear the shaking of the ground just past the line of slowly drifting fog. Lancaster's heart is pounding, his breath is heavy. The creature is between him and the town. The cliff is at his back. There are some woods off to Lancaster's left.
What should Lancaster do?
