Lancaster boosts the thrusters and launches himself upward, spinning on his side as he does. His jet trail knocks into the beast's eyes as it twists to keep up with him. Lancaster twirls through the air and the beast stays right behind him, keeping its eyes fixed on him. When it begins to realize his trick and flies straight at him, he turns, then continues the spin, making his motions just unpredictable enough to make the creature have to do as he does.
The plan works, the creature begins to reel, but it works too well. Lancaster gets dizzy as well, and begins to feel sick. Both he and the large beast begin to shiver in the air as they spin forward. The sky and the world all meld into one in Lancaster's eyes, and at length he loses all control, and he feels himself tumbling toward the ground. He would be an easy target, but the beast also loses control, and they both tumble headlong toward the ground in two different directions.
All Lancaster sees is fog. He doesn't know how far down he's going, and only knows the direction of the ground by the direction he's falling. He gets his bearings just enough to thrust against the ground and slow his fall, and just in time. Out of the fog rushes the ground. Lancaster hits it with a tremendous crash. All around him, his glider device lays in shambles, and he gasps for breath. He doesn't know how long he lays there in a daze, or if he falls completely unconscious or just loses track of time. Whatever is the case, it is a while before he is able to pull himself up groaning.
Looking in one direction, he sees the shapes of buildings nearby. That must be the town.
